It is not normally possible for an end user to repair a walkie talkie radio unless the problem is something simple. Some basic checks can be performed before deciding that the radio needs to be sent off for repair. Check the following - battery is charged, radio is on correct channel, volume is turned up to a suitable level, antenna is correctly secured and if it is a licence free radio has the correct privacy tone been selected? If another working radio is available try to swop batteries if your radio is dead, you may have a faulty battery. In order to repair a radio that is faulty, set levels, receiver sensitivity, transmit power and fully check that it meets specification expensive specialised test equipment is required. On many two way radios the correct software and cables are required in order to adjust the frequency offset, deviation, squelch threshold, receiver sensitivity, RF output power, PA bias, DCS balance etc. A Spectrum Analyzer is required in order to check for spurious transmission, and it also useful for checking the radiated power of a walkie talkie. Protea has all of this test equipment, radio software, service manuals, a large parts inventory and programming cables to ensure we are able to offer you an expert, cost effective repair.
